9U -Tadpole
For players ages 8 & 9
|
Tadpole baseball is a development level in which the fundamental skills (throwing, catching and hitting) and knowledge of the game are learned in a fun and non-competitive environment with balanced teams. The primary focus being on fun and sportsmanship.
In this division of play, girls and boys are provided with an opportunity to experience the elements of a shortened baseball game with put outs and swinging outs using a level 5 baseball. The games will have a time limit with a min. 4 innings and max 6 innings (max 4 runs per inning). At the beginning of the season, a batter receives pitches from a slinger pitching machine at low speed with players encouraged to swing at all balls. Midway in the season, a pitch rule is used where only swinging strikes are observed as a strike and 2nd year players are encouraged to pitch the 1st inning. Batters are given opportunities to swing at a pitched ball from a 2nd year player. Base running skills are also introduced where players advance only on a hit or a base on balls (no stealing or lead-offs). Runners will learn what to do in a given situation on a pop-fly or grounder (infield fly rule will not be enforced). Parent coaches will receive support and training to ensure they are comfortable to provide the basic fundamental skills and ensure the players have fun. Competitive Summer Team Tryouts will take place in June! |
