     11U -Mosquito

         For players ages 9-11
Mosquito baseball is a development level in which the fundamental skills (throwing, catching and hitting) and knowledge of the game are learned and expanded upon with situational play in a fun and mildly competitive environment with balanced teams.  Development focus will be on improvement of player fitness, skill and knowledge of the game with the foundation built on fun and sportsmanship.

In this division of play, girls and boys are provided an opportunity to experience the elements of a shortened baseball game with live pitching of an official hard ball.  Interlock games (with other nearby associations) will have a time limit for the entire game and max runs per inning with both a Plate Umpire and Base Umpire.  At the end of the season, Interlock Championship play-offs will be held.   In July, Summer Ball team(s) will represent Burnaby and compete in Interlock games to qualify for the BC Provincial Championships.

Pitchers are developed with learning a proper warm-up and throwing technique (Balk pitch not enforced).  Pitch counts are recorded and must be observed as per BC rules.  Catchers are developed to catch/stop the ball,  throw out base stealing runners and making the throw of a live ball back to the Pitcher.

For batters, proper batting technique and situational batting is learned.  Batters gain experience batting from a live pitcher and accepting the call from a Plate Umpire with respect.  Baserunners at this level learn situational base running skills, stealing bases (no lead-offs) and slide safely (no head first slides) with a Base Umpire making the call.

Fielders are taught fundamental skills of proper fielding techniques along with situational positioning for coordinated coverage and communication.

Parent coaches will be trained and have previous experience to teach the fundamental skills and ensure the players have fun and treated fairly.  Scorekeeping and Pitch Counts are recorded (mandatory) by volunteer parents on the team along with proper Field Prep and Clean-Up.  Players are encouraged to help and support their team mates by cheering them on and taking turns playing different positions.

11U - MOSQUITO SELECT EXHIBITION TEAM (MSET)

Picture
Burnaby Baseball Association is offering an opportunity in the 11U division to be part of a higher level of play this spring called Mosquito Select Exhibition Team (MSET). This will involve 1 practice and 1 game (probably Sundays) per week in addition to your spring team. Meaning Your commitment will go from 3 days per week to 5. The games will be home and away against other associations in the lower mainland and there will probably be a tournament May long weekend.
There is an additional cost of $50 to cover t-shirts, umpiring fees and balls.  Please click the link below if you are interested in playing on the 2025 MSET 11U team. Questions?  Contact Michael Samilski  [email protected]
